XIAOYU YANG, an independent filmmaker based in the New York City Area and a member of BAFTA North America, is an artist whose work delves into the complexities of human experience, nature, and cultural conservation. Honored with the Discovery Scholarship, she has been crafting independent films in the city since 2013. Her work is a multi-faceted exploration of cultural experiences and imagery. Her groundbreaking feature documentary A Lifelong Journey, chronicling the life of Chinese-Ameican artist Dan Hsu,
earned her 7 awards, including Best Feature, Best Director, and Best Female Filmmaker at the Hollywood International Independent Documentary Festival. Building on this success, her experimental and musical films have continued to gain recognition at film festivals worldwide, securing numerous accolades. With her bold storytelling style, she continues expanding her creative horizons, collaborating with international productions and organizations to craft original, boundary-pushing narratives in documentary and narrative film.
